The System Map is an incredibly important tool that help make sure you solve the right problem and serve the correct stakeholder needs. It prevents process improvement from becoming more efficient “garbage-in, garbage-out.”
It is human nature to leap in and solve a problem. Sometimes we “put out the fire” but do not understand the fuel that caused it. This can lead to recurring problems or solutions that reduce our pain but do not make the customer any happier.
